It’s Time For Oral Spring Cleaning

Now that it’s March, you are probably thinking about all the great things you will be able to do soon when the warm weather returns. One of the plans you may not be making is taking better care of your smile. While it might not be on your honey-do list, it is something you should really get done while you’re cleaning up your home and any other messy aspects of your life. Below you can uncover a couple of different ways you can complete an overhaul on your oral health now that spring is almost here.

Replace that toothbrush.

While you may be very good about brushing and flossing, you might not be doing yourself much good if you haven’t replaced your toothbrush in a while. After you have used a toothbrush for more than three months, the bristles are worn down and in general are just not nearly as effective in reaching those hard-to-reach spots. Toss that old toothbrush in the trash and head to the store to purchase a new one. Your teeth and gums will surely thank you.

Schedule an appointment at your dental office.

If you can’t remember the last time we stepped foot into a dental office, that’s a pretty good sign that it’s time for you to make an appointment with your dentist. Even if you did see a dentist last year, another cleaning can’t hurt and it is actually recommended that you have one completed every six months.

Drink more water.

Most people don’t realize the extreme effect not drinking enough water can have on their body. Water is literally the answer to nearly every simple health issue, however. Not only does drinking a lot of water aid your digestive system, but it also helps your teeth to remain healthy. Try drinking tap water with fluoride in it instead of bottled so that your teeth can fight decay even more thoroughly.

Be honest with yourself about your flossing habits.

For the majority of people, flossing is more of a desire than an actual habit. While they know the good flossing can do for their oral health, it’s often difficult to remember to do it. However, those who don’t make it a habit to floss every day suffer from bad breath and unhealthy gums. These aren’t things anyone really wants to experience. Own up to how infrequently you actually remember to floss and change the habit for good.

Smile more!

One of the best ways your can spring clean your smile is to bring it out of hiding. Winter tends to have a negative effect on the mood of most people, which often leads to them smiling a lot less. Now that spring is almost here, remember to smile anytime something makes you happy and show off those pearly whites.
