Take Great Care of Your Teeth With These 3 Tips

What does at-home dental care look like for you? For many, brushing your teeth and remembering to floss every so often gets the job done. And hey, if it works why change things up? The truth is that making a few simple tweaks to your daily routine can make a world of difference.

At-Home Dental Care Made Easy

Floss Differently

Most people know that they should be flossing more often. Our gums do indeed require more care than many people give them. The goal in mentioning this isn’t to make you feel bad, but instead to get you to start thinking about how you can make flossing just a little bit easier of a task.

Our recommendation is to switch things up a bit. When you floss your goal should be to gently massage the gums on the inside of your teeth. Having a hard time doing that with traditional floss? Switch it up to a floss pick or a water pick. These are changes that might be small but they can add up to make quite a bit of difference.

Get a New Toothbrush

On a similar note, a new toothbrush might be just the thing you need to do more complete brushing. The good news is that electronic toothbrushes do a great job at getting the motions just right.

Many of these toothbrushes even come with timers, and as you probably know you should be brushing your teeth for around two minutes. The timers on many electronic toothbrushes work well to remind you to brush by quadrants. For example, you brush one quarter of your mouth for 30 seconds, the timer will vibrate to remind you to switch it up, then you move onto the next area. In our experience, this eliminates the guesswork and ensures that you actually brush for the full two minutes. It’s always easier to brush when all you have to do is worry about moving the toothbrush back and forth!

Find the Right Mouthwash

Swishing your mouth with mouthwash is the absolute best way to finish up with an at-home dental care routine. It helps to get rid of any particles that were left in your mouth after flossing and brushing and it leaves your mouth feeling minty (or cinnamon-y) fresh!

There are plenty of mouthwashes out there to try and each of them claim to offer different benefits but the truth is that they’re all largely similar so our advice is to find the one that works best for you. Don’t be afraid to mix it up from time to time, however! As they say, variety is the spice of life and this applies to mouthwash as well.
